I've been thinking about the conversation we had a few nights ago, when you told me about what happened in your nightmares, and everything with OZ ...

I know ... it probably wasn't easy to just come out with all of that. I'm glad you trust me enough to tell me.

You gave a couple of hints... and Watanuki-sama explained a little, when you were sick.

Sorry... I know you weren't exactly... eager to talk about it, but I did want to know what was going on.

[ she's not sure what to think about that, but ... it made one part of it easier. ]

The descriptions of what was happening sounded like Zashi-chan's power. But Zashi-chan isn't like that ... I wanted to find out what was really going on. I went out on my own to investigate, and left a note for Wata-san and Dou-san saying not to worry about me.

[ hugs her knees to her chest. ]

She returned to her normal self ... just for a few minutes, before she took my soul from me. I remember it. And then everything went dark, and the next thing I knew, I woke up in bed. Wata-san and Dou-san were with me, and Moro-chan, Maru-chan, and Wormmon-chan.

[he doesn't really know what to say to that. It's one thing to be completely aware of your potential demise as its staring you in the face via a counting down world clock, but to not even know if you're going to live or die...]

... I see. At least you came out of it alright.

[ smiles a little. ]

Mn. I guess I got lucky.

The other time ...

[ she closes her eyes. ]

I was unlucky. Oshino-san even said that.

[puts his glasses back on and gets up, moving over to the bed]

What happened?

A boy I knew confessed he had feelings for me, and I didn't feel the same, so I told him that. A classmate of mine had feelings for this boy, and she didn't like that I'd hurt him like that, so she put a curse on me and told me the next day what she'd done ...

I took it seriously, so I started looking up ways to lift the curse, and started trying to get rid of it.

I learned later that it shouldn't have worked ... the curse shouldn't have worked. But because there was an excess of oddities at the shrine where I was trying to lift the curse, I inadvertently made it work. There was an invisible snake constricting my body, and if it got to my neck, it would suffocate me. It constricted me so much that there were marks on my skin, like snake scales ...

[ she shivers; she really didn't come out of that liking snakes at all. ]

Koyomi-oniichan ... he's like a big brother to me. I knew his sisters when I was really young. He found me trying to lift the curse, and consulted Oshino-san on how to get rid of it. It had become so bad at that point that I would have been dead if we'd waited another day. That night, we went back to the shrine with a charm Oshino-san had given us, so that we could get rid of the curse. Koyomi-oniichan told me to hold onto the charm and pray, and it ... was painful, but it started to work. But we found out soon after that there were two snakes ... the boy who confessed to me, he cursed me, too. We didn't expect this, so we didn't have any way of getting the second one off of me. It started trying to suffocate me ...

Koyomi-oniichan ran forward and tried to grab it off of me. He succeeded, but the snake went back to the boy who had placed the curse on me.

[ needless to say, the boy wasn't quite so lucky as she had been, but she wasn't going to mention that. ]

G-geez... that's...

[what the hell are you supposed to say to something like that?]

[ she keeps quiet after that. she's still upset over it, even if she gave off the impression afterward that she was okay. ]

[he still doesn't know what to say, so he just takes her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze.]

[ entwines their fingers and squeezes his hand in return. ]

... I've never told Dou-san or Wata-san about that.

You already know my feelings about being honest with your family... but I understand why you wouldn't. Watanuki-sama is really protective of you. After what happened to Doumeki-san... hearing that would probably make him more upset.

They're your family now, too ...

[ her hand squeezes his a little harder. her voice gets a little quieter. ]

... d-do ... do you think, at our age, we can really know what love is, Kazuma-kun ...?

[ off topic, but it's another of those things she's been thinking about. ]

I'unno... I know I care about you more than I've ever cared about anyone else before. And that I'm really happy when you're around. Obaachan always made it sound like that's at least what starts love...

[he shrugs a little, blushing a bit but looking up at her]

I'm really glad I met you, Nadeko-chan. Even if things have been kind of crappy since then.

[ she feels a blush of her own on her cheeks. she looks up at him, as well. ]

I-I feel ... like my heart couldn't belong to anyone else but you. I've always heard that I would just know when I loved someone. But I ...

[ small, sheepish smile. ]

I think I do love you ... if this is what love is. I want to do what I can to make you happy, for as long as I can.

[Kazuma gives her a dopey grin, cheeks turning a little redder.]

I'm glad.

[ smiles and giggles a little bit. her own cheeks are burning a little hotter, too. ]

Eheh... I guess I really don't smile that much, do I?

Not really, though I guess it's understandable, considering all that's gone on recently ...

[ leans in a little closer, smiling deviously. ]

I'll make it a personal mission to make you smile more~
